Game rotations
A box score tells me that a player played 28 minutes. I want to know where those minutes went. Did he start each quarter? Did he close the game? Was he on the court with the starters, or running the second unit while they rested?
Open a game from the BlatBlat homepage and switch from Box Score to Rotations. Each player gets a timeline of his time on the court, split into quarters and overtime periods. Reading the rows together shows when players overlapped and when the substitutions changed the group on the floor.
Expand a player’s timeline to see his individual stints and the stats recorded during them. Select a stat heading to pin those events onto his timeline: where his shots fell, when the assists came, or which stint contained the turnovers. The numbers in the box score now have a place in the game.
What I’m trying to see is the shape of a role. A similar minutes total can hide a different night: an early substitution, a longer run with the bench, or a place in the closing lineup. A single game cannot settle whether that role has changed, but the rotations give me something more useful to look for in the next one.
